About the Washburn ValHellers

We are a non-profit club comprised of
volunteers
dedicated to the sport of snowmobiling.
Our mission is to maintain and promote the great sport of snowmobiling
in and around the Washburn, Wisconsin area.
Through the cooperation of landowners and the support
of individual and business memberships,
we maintain a vast trail system on both private and public lands.
Although we as a club do not actually groom the trails,
we work cooperatively with the
Bayfield
County Snowmobile Alliance
to coordinate the grooming efforts.
The efforts of our club focus on providing safe snowmobile opportunities
for local citizens as well as those visiting our area. As a club, we
promote businesses who support our efforts since those who snowmobile rely
on food, fuel, supplies and lodging during their trips.
We also encourage those who snowmobile to patronize businesses who
actively support our efforts so there is return for their support as well.
During the spring, summer and fall months,
our club members busy themselves with trail maintenance.
We brush trails, replace signs, build bridges, repair culverts and work
with landowners on issues they may have for the trails crossing their
property.
People who use our trail system have to understand and respect the
relationships with establish with local landowners. A majority of our
trails cross private lands simply through the good-will permission of the
landowner. When riders venture outside of marked trails in fields,
destroy signs or disrespect the rights of property owners, our trails
become threatened. One section of trail closure by a landowner could
result in the closing of an entire trail.
Please respect the private property you and others ride on.
Our first “club” maintained trail (still
in existence) went from
the City of
Washburn
to Mount Valhalla, which is where we get our name.
Mount
Valhalla
was home to a historic ski-jump many years ago.
Today,
Mount
Valhalla is maintained by the National Forest Service
and acts as a winter hub for outdoor enthusiasts.
From snowmobile trails, to cross-country skiing to down-hill sliding for
the kids,
Valhalla is and will always be an area of attraction for winter
activities.
During the winter months, a fire-warmed chalet is open daily and allows
vehicle and trailer parking with access to snowmobile trails in every
direction.
If you enjoy
snowmobiling, and want to see it continue in the Washburn area, we
encourage you to join our club. An annual paid membership goes a long way
to supporting our efforts. If you like the get out in the warmer months,
watch for upcoming events when you and your family can get out and help us
out.
You don’t need to own a chainsaw or 4-wheeler to participate.
Thanks for
learning about us and thanks for visiting our site!
